Die Remise — A Nordic-Inspired Refurbishment

A sensitive refurbishment that brings together Scandinavian simplicity, playful character, and the timeless spirit of Alvar Aalto.

Die Remise is a unique home defined by its castle-like architectural features, generous natural light, and striking double-height spaces. The design celebrates the building’s original character while introducing a fresh, contemporary language inspired by Nordic modernism.

Natural materials, warm wood, sculptural lighting, and carefully curated vintage pieces create an atmosphere that feels both minimal and expressive. A restrained architectural backdrop allows unexpected colours, bold patterns, and eclectic objects to bring personality and a sense of playfulness to the interiors.

The presentation also draws on fragments of classical still-life painting, introducing rich textures, deep colours, and carefully composed arrangements of everyday objects. These painterly references create a dialogue between art and interior design, adding a layer of history, sensuality, and visual richness to the otherwise understated Scandinavian palette.

Inspired by the humanistic approach of Alvar Aalto, the project explores the balance between function and emotion, simplicity and warmth, architecture and everyday life. The result is a home that feels effortlessly lived-in: understated yet distinctive, timeless yet unconventional, with a distinctly Scandinavian soul.

The poetry of the everyday

Fruit on a table, sunlight across a wooden floor, a favourite chair, a meal shared. The project finds beauty in these simple moments, embracing a slower, more thoughtful way of living.

L’art de vivre

An ode to the art of living well. Spaces conceived not only to be inhabited, but to be enjoyed — where everyday rituals become small acts of beauty.

A feast for the senses

A palette of earthy tones, aged wood, rich reds, and tactile materials evokes the warmth of a lived-in home — a space that appeals as much to the senses as to the eye.

La nature morte

Inspired by the richness of classical still-life painting, objects, food, and light become compositions in their own right. A celebration of the ordinary, elevated through colour, texture, and time.

Die Remise is a tiny house with castle-like spatial features.

Bathed in abundant natural light, the space feels both intimate and expansive. The double-height volume enriches the experience, creating an almost spiritual atmosphere.
